Custom circuit boards. Optical sensors. PIC that can be reprogrammed in place. Opto-isolator for the solenoid. And, of course, an RGB LED to tell you which direction the motor is running. No one is safe.

xBee module
4N25 opto isolator (or similar)
2xAA battery holder (from Radio Shack)
430 Ohm resistor (surface mount is optional)
Small diameter wire
